2015 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) Air Barrier Requirements
The 2015 IECC code requirements have now been published and one of the items that is still being discussed in this standard is the potential requirement of a roofing air barrier in addition to the roofing membrane for mechanically attached single ply roofing system installations in areas of the country that have adopted this code.
Carlisle just published the attached paper that discusses why ASHRAE officials would not include mechanically attached systems in this code and the concerns that exist if an added air barrier were not installed as it relates to both energy efficiency and potential roofing issues that could occur if an added air barrier was not installed below the roofing membrane and insulation.
If you are specifying a mechanically fastened single ply system in an ASHRAE zone outside of Zone 2B that has adopted the 2015 IECC code, please feel free to contact us to discuss options for adding an appropriate air barrier system.
